Idioms Through Time and Technology. The Signature of a Culture

Abstract

Our research aims at finding a more precise definition of the idioms, establishing a new classification of them and eliminating the fixed phrases which were taken into consideration in various dictionaries without being proper idioms, along with demonstrating how technology influenced the production of this type of fixed phrases in English and in Romanian. It also aims at revealing their nature, whether negative, positive or neutral. Last but not least the present research is looking into the cultural mark the idioms may carry and how the history and the mentality of a people may influence their production from the vocabulary they use to their inner structure.
